The Burning Man event is a large annual gathering that takes place in the Northern Nevada desert each year. It attracts upwards of 49,000 people. It is a test of community building and of self-reliance. An all volunteer group, called the Black Rock Rangers, has formed from within the community to create a buffer between law enforcement, EMS, federal authorities, the civilian attendees.
Their role is that of
mediation, a re-source of first-response
medical assistance, and that of security.
My role has been that of unofficial art-director
for the group. I’ve created style-guides,
implemented logo standardization, and vetted
a list of approved vendors. The evolution
of the brand is on-going and with every
new year and related event theme, I am
presented with a fresh and interesting
direction to cultivate and explore.
